What is perfect pre-round preparation? Now I guess this question could be answered in a couple of different ways, because different people would have different pre-round preparation. I think the best way to answer this is what is; not perfect pre-round preparation, which is rushing. Most golfers get to the golf course, time is a big factor in all of our lives these days. So most people get to the golf course they’re rushing. They’re not mentally focused, they’re not physically prepared. They rush on to the first team. They have a bad front nine. Then they throw the card in the bin and they have a brilliant back nine. So if you can just avoid rushing, getting to the golf course late and having some amount of time to prepare that would be great.

A rough example of a good players pre-round preparation, maybe not talking tour players here because this is their job that’s all they do but a good player might allow himself half an hour. Get to the golf course half an hour early, you could either go to the practice net or if there is a driving range go to the range and just hit 25 looseners, 25 shots potentially with a range of different clubs finishing off with the club you’re going to use on the first tee. So if you know that first tee is a big driver hole practice the last five or 10 balls with a driver. If that first hole is a short – three maybe a seven iron, use the seven-iron for the last five or 10 shots of your pre round preparation then you’ve used that club you get to the first tee it’s a little bit more similar to the practice you’ve just done. Try and then spend five to 10 minutes just chipping around the chipping green go to the putting green, five to 10 minutes on the putting green, get yourself a drink, visit the bathroom, go to the first tee. That’s perfect preparation if you’ve got half an hour to spend if you’ve got more time allowable maybe an hour, just spend a bit longer doing all those different areas, but make sure your bag is well packed and prepared, make sure your body is well packed and prepared a bit of food a bit of water, nip to the loop, you’ve warmed up, you’re good to go. Hopefully if you can have better pre-round preparation you’ll actually have better in-round scores.
