Okay. What we’re going to talk about now is the best feet position in the actual stance. So, let’s talk you through what a stance should be. The ideal perfect stance is when you put your feet apart, the feet should be approximately the same width as your shoulders. You can imagine if you have your feet too wide or too narrow it’s not in proportion to your body so the balance is a lot more likely to be off balance, so you’re not actually in control. So, put your feet the same width as your shoulder, that’s first of all is the width of your stance.
Now, the feet position. What you want to do in a backswing is we want to get some sort of resistance, so the best way of getting resistance is to put this foot actually head on, not open as some golfers do, put the foot head on and turn the left foot slightly out. Now, what the right foot will do here is that will actually naturally build a resistance so when we turn our hips back we’ve actually got some resistance, so it coils here and the energy is now stored for going back into the hitting area, so that’s what the right foot does. The left foot where it actually turns slightly open is a very, very good sort of idea.
The reason for that is because anybody, especially with sort of disabilities or physical sort of restrictions, if you turn your left foot out the one good thing about that is that when you hit through there is no pressure going against your ankle or your knee, so there is less pressure on there, so as a senior golfer myself, if I turn the left foot out the weight will actually transfer through the shot quite naturally on the outside and, again, there is no sort of effect on the knee or the heel.
So, if we put it into full swing mode, set ourselves up, got this foot square on, this one open, here is the resistance to the backswing and then there you go, all the way through the ball. Very, very simple remedy. Very, very simple tip. Put it into good practice. Remember, this foot square on, this foot open, that’s really going to help improve your golf.
