If you watch any golf on the TV from time-to-time, you'll hear the commentators talk about somebody's swinging the club flat or swinging the club around my body. So here's a bit of a description about what that terminology could mean and if it applies to your swing, so its often viewed from down the line when we see golf is in this flat position so looking from down the line we talk about the plane of a swing and someone should have a club on plane and flat is basically just below the line and steep or upright is above the plane.
So if someone is flat, we would generally say that the club is behind their body too early behind their hands too early, their hands and stay low behind the body would often see the club, would actually be pointing above the top of the ball. At this point we'd like to see the shaft quite often pointing down at the ball that would be on plane online. This would be too flat. And at the top of the swing, we would often see a left handed arm that says level or below the shoulder plane. Some day, sometimes it's accommodated by a standing of a spine angle as well, so if you have a very flat swing you might come to you're swinging too far around yourself. Your left arm is too low. Your right elbow is too low. Your forearms could have rolled in the backswing or your spine angle could have stood up.
So if you swing and you swing flats to here, it could cause problems in the downswing. Often flat swingers would have too much draw or hooks been on the ball, but some people react in a different fashion swing flat in the backswing then try and get back on plane actually manipulate it over the top so it isn’t always going to cause one particular type of shot. The golf swing is often not that simple. It's going to cause different faults from different people swings. The best way to check if your swing is flat is get a video camera or a mirror set behind you and just check where you are in your backswing whether you're on plane, too steep or too flat around you.
So get somebody to have a look at your golf swing on camera. Check it out yourself on video and see whether your swing is too flat or not.
