So if you've now decided to incorporate the Fred Couples aiming down the left hand side open stance technique into your game let’s look at some of the advantages of how that might benefit you when you actually go and play on the golf course. One of the first things we had actually been able to be a bit more aggressive when there is danger down the left hand side. I'm aiming left, yes but because my ball flight should be curving from the left to right I should be able to play those holes with danger left in a little bit more of an aggressive fashion because the ball should be curving away from that danger.

The next advantage is actually going to be playing short flags. So, a green where the flag is at the front of the green with maybe danger around the front because of the ball, when you're standing with an open stance the ball flight is higher and a little bit softer as and when it comes down it stops quicker. Aiming to a flag that’s just over water hazard or a bunker the ball should stop and spin a little bit rather than shooting on too far. Another advantage is the ability to play out to fairway bunkers. Now if I'm going to a fairway bunker I want to get a ball up fairly quickly, so by standing slightly open swinging nice and steep and then coming down with an open face the open face is going to be able to pop that ball out and cut that ball out to the fairway bunker and a steeper angle of attack is actually going to get me a cleaner lie as I swing down into the back of the ball. Another advantage, there is lots of advantages to this. Another advantage is that you can be a little bit more aggressive going into the par five, you know the advantage of standing with an open stance we could have a nice big bum off the tee, we can get our ball cutting from left to right, but the real advantage is the second shot coming from the deck. When I have got a three wood or a hybrid club coming off a tight fairway lie again the out to in slightly steeper golf swing should get me a better angle of attack. A steeper angle of attack gets me a better contact with that second shot of the fairway and then again playing into the green with my foot I can get the ball gripping and stopping on the green, so a really added benefit when you’re playing the par fives with the open stance. The last benefit is probably the most obvious with an open stance. This is going to be the flop shot. Now we know that when we are hitting flop shots quite often we’re going to encourage golfers to stand open, swing the club out and in. For a lot of golfers that feels quite strange, but for the golfer that’s standing open with that stance for a lot of other shots the open stance up and down action for a flop shot should feel a little bit more natural, little bit more comfortable and that Freddy Couples open stance can give you all of those benefits to your game.
