And if you have identified that you are hitting the ball from the toe side, we need to identify why you are doing that and then we can look at how you can correct that. So let’s look at two major causes of hitting the ball from the toe side. And the first thing to consider is just check that you are the right distance away from the ball. If you feel like you are the right distance away from the ball, then one of these two areas might be the concern. So we set up to the ball correctly, I know I’m on the right distance away from the ball. I'll swing the club nicely to the top. Now at this point here if I early release, now by early release we mean extending the hands and arms away from you. Extend the hands and arms away from you. The club is now on the outside of the line, the only direction that club can go to hit the ball is back in towards me. And effectively I’m pulling the club back in towards me as I swing through the impact zone. So I am actually dragging the center spot of the golf club across towards the inside of the ball which could result in me hitting the toe side of the club. So from the top, an early release and throw out and then a zip back in across the golf ball could be one of the reasons why you would be hitting the toe of the golf club and if you can understand you are hitting the toe, you can understand that’s the fault for why you are doing it. You can then go ahead and start looking at a correction for that.

Another area where you might feel that you are hitting the toe shot from is actually the body standing up too much in the downswing. So we set ourselves up to a nice position here. Everything is good and comfortable, swing back nicely and then stand up. And if I’ve stood up and I’m now try and reach for the floor, I can’t reach for the floor very well apart from hitting in this area here which would then bring the toe in line with the ball. So actually from a set up where I’m nicely tilted forwards, if I stand up more, that toe move towards the ball effectively as my body, my shoulders, moving away from the ball that create my main problem. So I want to stay nicely down on top of the ball, stay down through the ball of impact rather than standing up, that creates the toe strikes, that creates that weakness that pushes the ball away to the right-hand side and therefore the toe is causing me some problems. So the early release and the standing up are two of the main reasons why you might be toeing the golf ball.
