If you have played golf for a number of years, you may have come across the dreaded shank. Now the dreaded shank is when the actual club contacts the ball right from the heel, and it shoots off pretty much in that direction and it goes there very, very quickly. It’s a horrible feeling and many people have suffered with this problem. And one of the areas where it’s most frustrating and most painful is when you actually get round the green. I've seen people in playing lessons who have hit chip shots out of the heel, started to shank it and then a full 360 of the green. It's a horrible, horrible thing to actually witness.
But there are technical causes; there are mental aspects to this. But there are very much technical reasons as to why you would be hitting it out of the heel. And what we're actually going to do within this video series is look at the shank, look at what you'll be doing within your chip shots to cause that shank. And then we're going to really nail down into the details and see why that might be happening. So if you're hitting it from the heel, if you are seeing that shot which just flies out straight away to the right-hand side, everyone who does one knows what it is. Hopefully these videos will help you and set you along the right path.
