Other Swing Issues Can Cause Golf Pop Up Tee Shots (Video) - by Pete Styles

If you have made the recommended changes that I have given you so far in the previous couple of videos and you are still struggling with popping the golf ball up off the tee, then there will be a couple more things that we could look to. One of them would simply be lack of confidence, the fact that you are so unconfident about striking this golf ball well because you are so scared to pop it up in the air that you actually drive yourself to pop it up in the air, even more.

So as you setup to the golf ball one of the things we wouldn’t want you to see you do, is just stay very flat footed and swing it with the hands and the arms, someone that’s scared of what the golf ball might do, where it might go, generally just swings with the hands and their arms, that’s going to be a massive problem in terms of popping the ball up. What I would really encourage you to do, is make sure that from the top of the backswing, the body rotates to the left side, the front side and we turn through with a bit of confidence. And hopefully with that in mind, we won’t be getting quite so steep into the golf ball, we will be turning through and striking the ball away with a more fluid and more level action. One other consideration might be just the use or the overuse particularly of your right hand and you want that swings to the top of the backswing and starts to hit down on the golf ball, particularly with the right hand if you are right-handed golfer, maybe it feels comfortable to whack down the golf ball with the right hand that’s going to create a very steep angle of attack, gouging and digging down underneath the golf ball. And again we get to the top of the swing here, we want to feels the arms and hands drop together and the body turns all in unison and lots of confidence behind that motion, rather than picking it up and then throwing the right hand which creates the outside the line, creates the steep, creates the down underneath the golf ball. So just be careful of making sure you don’t fall into those pitfalls and you should soon stop popping the ball up in the sky too much.
