    Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1970, Herron seems to have been destined to play golf. Both his father and grandfather were golf professionals who played at the US Open. After high school, Herron attended college at the University of New Mexico. While still at college he played on the Walker Cup team in 1993, before turning professional later that same year.

    After turning professional, Herron played on the Nationwide Tour, before winning on the PGA Tour for the first time, at the Honda Classic in 1996. In his first four seasons playing at the top level in golf, Herron achieved victory on three occasions. Although he continued to play consistently it was not until 2006 that he won on the PGA Tour for the fourth time, at the Bank of America Colonial.

    Impressively, over his entire golfing career, Herron has played in more than 500 events on the PGA Tour.

    As of the end of 2014, Herron had achieved four wins on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $18,781,483.
