Born in Amarillo, Texas, in 1976, Palmer played golf first at the University of North Texas for a year, then at Texas A&M University for a further three years. After graduating from college in 1976, Palmer turned professional. After turning professional, Palmer played on Tightlies Tour and Hooters Tour mini tours. In 2003 he played on the Nationwide Tour for the first time, and was successful in gaining his card to play on the PGA Tour the following season.
He won for the first time on the PGA Tour, at the FUNAI Classic, in 2004. It was a further four years before he won again, at the Ginn sur Mer Classic. Winning at this event helped him to secure his card to play on the PGA Tour the following season. At the start of 2010, Palmer won for the third time on the PGA Tour, at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Away from the course, Palmer has established a foundation to provide financial support for young golfers who need it.
As of the end of 2014, Palmer had achieved three victories on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $17,180,813.
