Scotland’s Russell Knox stayed in the United States after completing college at Jacksonville State University. He played three years on the NGA Hooters Tour, one notch below the Nationwide Tour.
Knox won twice on the Hooters Tour and played well enough to join the Nationwide Tour in 2011. He won in July that year at the Chiquita Classic. A consistent season led to a 12th place finish on the money list and PGA Tour status for 2012.
The first year on the PGA Tour was a big learning curve for Knox. He played in 23 tournaments and made 12 cuts. He finished 143rd on the money list. The performance caused him to play on both the PGA and Web.com Tours in 2013. Solid play at the Web.com Tour finals allowed Knox to earn full exempt status for the PGA again in 2014.
Knox played much better in his second full season. He was in contention at the Honda Classic losing in a four person playoff that included eventual winner Russell Henley, Rory McIlroy and Ryan Palmer.
Knox is a member of a very elite club – he shot 59 in a round on the Web.com Tour in 2013.
Knox is currently ranked #77 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Russell’s childhood nickname was “Roo.” Knox says if he weren’t a professional golfer, he would have liked to have been a singer. Knox resides in Jacksonville Beach, Florida when he isn’t traveling on tour.
