    Born in Redcliffe, Queensland, in 1969, Pampling began playing golf professionally in 1994. He began playing as a professional on the PGA Tour of Australia. During his time playing on this tour he won the Canon Challenge, in 1999. Pampling also began playing on the Hooters Tour, before joining the Buy.com Tour, now the Web.com Tour, in 2000 and 2001. In his second season on this tour, Pampling achieved results that were good enough to secure him a place on the PGA Tour the following season.

    Pampling won for the first time on the PGA Tour in 2004, at The International. He won again, two years later, at the Bay Hill Invitational, in 2006. At that time, Pampling was rated in the World Top 50. 2010, was a bad season for Pampling and he played on the Tour in 2011 with limited status, based on his previous wins. At the end of the 2011 season, Pampling just managed to retain his PGA Tour card. The following season he lost his card, and after that time he has played between the Web.Com Tour and the PGA Tour.

    As of the end of 2014, Pampling had achieved two wins on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $13,864,812.
