After graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1997, Wilson turned pro. He played on the Hooters Tour for a number of years, winning three times. His won his first PGA Tour card after finishing in a tie for 17th at the 2002 Q School. Wilson played 30 events in his rookie season, making the cut 11 times. Hi best result came at the HP Classic of New Orleans where he finished in 4thplace. He narrowly missed out on retaining his card after finishing three places outside the top 125 on the money list.
He won back his card at Q School. He first win on Tour came in 2007 at the Honda Classic where he won a four man play-off. He beat Camilo Villegas, Jose Coceres and Boo Weekley. This was one of three top 10s that year on his way to finishing 56th on the money list. His second win came in 2009 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun. Wilson’s best year on Tour to date came in 2011. He won twice and had nine top 25 finishes. The first win came at the Sony Open in Hawaii, his first event of the season. He finished two shots ahead of Tim Clark and Steve Marino. Less than a month later, Wilson captured the Waste Management Phoenix Open after a play-off with Jason Dufner. He finished the season a career best 19th on the money list.
Wilson’s fifth and latest Tour win came in 2012 at the Humana Challenge. He won the event by two strokes. Wilson had a very good performance at the WGC World Matchplay Championship, finishing in 3rd place. This lead to a best ever World Ranking for Wilson at 24th in the rankings. Wilson has struggled with his game the last couple of seasons and is in danger of losing his PGA Tour card in 2015.
