John’s older brother Joe is also a pro golfer and won a PGA Tour event in 1967. John was a three time All American while at the University of North Carolina, he was awarded the College Golfer of the Year in his senior year and he won the NCAA individual Championship with a record score in 1984. After graduating in 1985, Inman turned pro. His first full year on the PGA Tour was in 1987 and he managed to capture his first Tour win in his rookie season. It came at the Provident Classic where he shot a final round 66 to hold off Rocco Mediate and Bill Glasson by a single stroke. He had two other top 10s in his rookie season to finish the year 72ndon the money list.
His second and last Tour win came in 1993 at the Buick Southern Open where he won by a single stroke. It was one of only two top 10 finishes that season and he ended the year 69th on the money list. Inman lost his card after the 1996 season due to registering only a single top 25 finish and ending the year 191st on the money list. He would never regain his PGA Tour card. Inman became eligible for the Champions Tour in 2012 and has played 35 events, finishing in the top 10 twice. Interesting fact: John is one of only 12 groups of brothers who have both won a PGA Tour event.
