Swafford was born in Lakeland, Florida on September 9, 1987. He studied at Maclay High School, Tallahassee and then the University of Georgia. After graduating with a B.S. in Consumer Economics, Swafford turned professional in 2011.

After turning professional, Swafford started playing on the Nationwide Tour in 2012. He achieved his first win that year, at the Stadion Classic at UGA.  He participated in the Web.com Tour Finals in 2013, and finished in 21st place. This finish meant that Swafford earned his PGA Tour Card for 2014.

Away from the course, Swafford spends time with his wife, Katherine Wainwright Brandon. He also enjoys watching Georgia Football. Swafford is addicted to his iPhone, and never travels anywhere without it. He is also a fan of beef jerky, which he carries with him in his golf bag.

As of the end of 2014, Swafford was yet to achieve a win on the PGA Tour, but had amassed total prize money of $513,883.
