Love’s father was a professional himself, and was recognized as a first class golf instructor. It was from him that Love first got his passion for the game. Love’s mother also plays golf. Unfortunately Love’s father died in a plane crash in 1988. During his time at college Love was three time All-American.
After turning professional in 1985, Love quickly earned his PGA Tour card. Two years later he won his first PGA Tour event, at the MCI Heritage Golf Classic, at Harbour Town Golf Links. He continued to achieve success, both on and off the course. In February 2015, Love was named captain of the US Ryder Cup team for 2016.
Love founded his own golf course design company, Love Golf Design, in 1994. Since then the company has been responsible for creating several golf courses, including Ocean Creek which was completed in 1997.
Love has also written a successful book, Every Shot I Take, in honor of his father, which was published in 1997. The book won the United States Golf Association's International Book Award. Love is a family man; he is married to Robin, and the couple has two children.
As of the end of 2014, Love had achieved twenty wins on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $42,796,746.
