Japanese born Maruyama turned professional in 1994, but didn’t play his first full season on the Japan Golf Tour until seven years later, in 2001. He achieved his first win on the Japan Golf Tour in 2005, at the Fujisankei Classic. This was his best year on the tour with eight top 10 placings as well as the win.

Four years later, in 2009, Maruyama achieved further success with a win at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, which is a tournament for players from both the Japanese and Asian golf tours. In 2006 and 2007 Maruyama played on the PGA Tour following a seventh place tie at the 2005 qualifying school. His best result on the Tour was a tie for third place in 2006 at The International.

As of the end of 2014, Maruyama was yet to achieve a win on the PGA Tour, but had amassed total prize money of $1,554,676.
