Trahan was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1980, but moved a couple of times during his childhood; the first time to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where he played at Harbour Town Golf Links as a child, then to Spartanburg, South Carolina where he played golf and basketball at Paul M. Dorman High School. After high school Trahan studied at Clemson University. He continued to play golf and was successful during his amateur career, winning the U.S. Amateur Public Links in 2000 and playing for the US Walker Cup team in 2001.
Trahan turned professional in 2003 and started out on the Nationwide Tour in 2004. The following season Trahan was a rookie on the PGA Tour, and he won his first Tour event, the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, in 2006. In 2008 he achieved his second PGA Tour win, at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
The love of golf runs in Trahan’s family. His father, Don, was an instructor, who made one professional start on the PGA tour, at the 1980 Atlanta classic, where he missed the cut.
As of the end of 2014, Trahan had achieved two wins on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $9,534,574.
