Barlow was born in Henderson, Nevada. Barlow didn’t just play golf at high school, he was also ranked fifth in the state as a tennis player. Still a fan of tennis, Barlow lists Andre Agassi’s book Open as one of his favorites. He did develop a love of golf from a young age though; he was a standard bearer at the Las Vegas Invitational when he was still a child. After turning professional in 1995, Barlow played on both the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour, from 1998 to 2011. He has said that his most thrilling experiences on the course have come at the five US Opens he has played in. His favorite course to play at is Pebble Beach.

Away from the golf course, Barlow has said that his biggest thrill was the birth of his son. Other interesting family facts about Barlow are that he has listed both as father and brother as being part of his ideal foursome. Barlow is also the cousin of Brandon Flowers from The Killers.

Barlow is a fan of all sports, and enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys. He has also said that his favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant. Barlow has not always earned his money by playing golf; he worked at Pizza Hut for five years before he started playing on the PGA Tour.

As of the end of 2014, Barlow was yet to achieve a PGA Tour win, but he had amassed total prize money of $5,183,390.
