Born in Knoxville, Tennessee and raised in Woodstock, Georgia, Kirk played golf while at the University of Georgia. After graduating he turned professional in 2007. At the start of his professional career, Kirk played on the Nationwide Tour. Having finished in second place on the Nationwide Tour money list, in 2010, Kirk secured a card for the PGA Tour for 2011.
Kirk’s first win on the PGA Tour came at the Viking Classic, which was played the same weekend as The Open Championship. This victory meant that he qualified for the PGA Championship, where he finished in a tie for 34th place. Kirk had a good inaugural season on the PGA Tour, and retained his card for the following season.
During the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Kirk continued to play solidly, achieving a total of seven top 10 finishes. During the 2013 season Kirk achieved his second win on the PGA Tour, at the McGladrey Classic. This was followed by a third PGA Tour win, at Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.
As of the end of 2014, Kirk had achieved three PGA Tour wins (he achieved a fourth in 2015). He had amassed prize money of $9,762,437.
