Charlie Wi was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1972. Over the years Wi has played on the European and Asian Tours, as well as the PGA Tour. Having been born in South Korea, Wi moved to the US when he was ten, where he later attended the University of Nevada. Wi had some success as an amateur before turning professional in 1995.

In 2004 Wi qualified for the PGA Tour for the following season, having been successful at qualifying school. His first season on the PGA Tour was not successful, and he failed to secure his PGA Tour card for 2006. This meant that Wi played 2006 on the Asian and Nationwide Tours, before gaining his place back on the PGA Tour for 2007, by succeeding at qualifying school.  

Wi achieved a few runner-up placed on the PGA Tour, including the David Toms at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, in 2011 and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in2012

As of the end of 2014, Wi had yet to achieve a win on the PGA Tour, but had amassed total prize money of $9,930,398.
