Born in Mesa, Arizona, in 1984, Beljan achieved some success as an amateur, winning the US Junior Amateur in 2002, and the Arizona Amateur in 2006. Beljan played golf while at the University of New Mexico, and was All-American in 2007.
Having turned professional in 2007, Beljan began playing on the Gateway Tour, where he remained until 2011, achieving seven wins and leading the money list in 2009. In 2011 Beljan finished in a tie for 13th place at qualifying school and earned his PGA Tour card for the following season. Right at the end of the 2012 season, Beljan had still not earned his Tour card for the following season. His last chance was at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, and Beljan suffered a panic attack during the second round of the tournament.
Despite receiving medical advice not to continue the tournament, Beljan persevered and won. This meant that he earned a two-year exemption. The win was just part of what was an interesting year for Beljan, during which he suffered a wrist injury, got married and became a father.
As of the end of 2014, Beljan had achieved one win on the PGA Tour, amassing total prize money of $3,002,409.
