Born in Gallatin, Missouri in 1982, Garnett was first introduced to golf by his father when he was four years of age, although he also played basketball at high school. Garnett attended College at Missouri Western State University. While there, he was NCAA Division II All-American three times. After leaving College Garnett turned professional in 2006, and commenced playing on the Adams Pro Tour in 2007.

After playing on this tour until 2009, Garnett commenced playing on the Web.com Tour in 2010. His position on the money list improved each year, until he finished on 14th place in 2013, and earned a PGA Tour card for the following season. His first season on the PGA Tour saw him make the cut in 20 out of 28 starts, and achieve the best result of joint 7th place at the Shell Houston Open.

As of the end of 2014, Garnett was yet to achieve win on the PGA Tour, but had amassed total prize money of $617,805.
