Jobe was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, before attending UCLA. While at college he was on the golf team that won the NCAA Division I Men's Championship in 1988. That same year Jobe turned professional. Initially he did not play on the PGA Tour, but he did lead the order of merit on the Canadian Tour in 1990, and he gained membership of the PGA Tour for the 1991 season, through qualifying school.
Jobe’s first season on the PGA Tour was not successful, he only made the cut at five tournaments. Over the next few years his golf career was somewhat turbulent, until he settled on the Japan Tour where he won a total of six tournaments between 1995 and 1999. In 1999 Jobe returned to the PGA Tour as a temporary member, and has continued to play, despite sustaining serious injuries to his hand as the result of a freak accident at home in 2003.
Jobe has continued to achieve a limited amount of success. He has been placed in the top fifty of the world rankings, and in 2011 he achieved his best PGA Tour finish in six years when he finished in a tie for second place at the Memorial Tournament.
