Florida born Weekley did not immediately start out on the golf path. He worked as a hydroblaster at a chemical plant after leaving his course at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Weekley then decided to play golf professionally, but he did not have an especially successful start to his professional career. After turning professional in 1997, he spent the next few years playing on mini tours, until he first qualified for the PGA Tour in 2002. Again, he was not very successful, only making the cut five times out of twenty four starts, and losing his tour card.

Weekley spent the next couple of seasons playing on the Nationwide Tour, until he qualified to return to the PGA Tour for the 2007 season. During the season he achieved his first Tour win, at the Verizon Heritage in April 2007. The good form Weekley displayed at this event also showed with a further two top ten finishes early in 2007, at which time he reached as high as fifty five in the rankings. Weekley continued to play well into 2008, when he was again successful in winning the Verizon Heritage. He rose to twenty five in the rankings, and impressed with his superb play as part of the US Ryder Cup team, during which he was captured on camera riding his driver like a horse.

As of the end of 2014, Weekley had achieved three wins on the PGA Tour, amassing prize money of $11,834,558.
