Welsh born Boulden first played golf at the age of five, having been influenced by her father, who worked as a golf professional at Maesdu Golf Club. Boulden went on to play golf at an amateur level for several years. During her amateur career Boulden played in both the 2010 Junior Ryder cup and the 2011 Junior Solheim Cup. She was also named BBC Young Sportswoman of the Year in 2008.
After achieving success at an amateur level, Boulden turned professional in 2013. Boulden finished in 2nd place in the first tournament she played, and won her first event, at Gams-Werdenberg Golf Club. Despite not playing a full card on the European Ladies Tour, Boulden achieved four Top 10 finishes over the year, and earned prize money of €83,982.17. She also qualified to play at the 2014 US Women’s Open Championship at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club and the US Open at Pinehurst Golf Club in 2015.
