Deloitte and USGA Created Augmented Reality App for the US Open

Since we’re living in a “digital world” and everything’s virtual, it’s no wonder that Deloitte worked together with the USGA to bring us the latest fashion in golf-related high-technology, and we’re talking about an augmented reality app (think Pokemon Go!). Why would you need that, you asked? Well, the new app which comes with a fancy name (U.S. Open Augmented Reality (AR) App by Deloitte) and looks like it’s the next big thing in golf, i.e. it will help you enjoy an engaging and highly innovative digital experience while you’re watching your favorite game.

The app was created specifically for the 119th U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links, which takes place between June 10th and June 16th, and it’s available for both Android and Apple users, in the Google Play Store as well as in the Apple App Store. Using the AR app by Deloitte you’ll be able to get exclusive insights on-site at Pebble Beach or from anywhere actually, including high-tech glimpses into players’ performance and all that. And speaking about Pebble Beach, one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, you’ll be able to admire the legendary 6th, 7th and 18th holes using AR (augmented reality) in 3D, just like in those boomer-era science-fiction movies.

We’re only kidding but mark our words: augmented reality is the new reality in golf and anything else. The Pebble Beach golf course will arrive on your smartphone via a 3D virtual map, thus allowing you to see the “action” in real-time, as well as see how players perform on Pebble Beach’s signature holes and all that jazz.

On top of that, you’ll be able to relive legendary shots by the 5 previous US Open champions, including Tiger Woods back in 2000, or the iconic golf-player/architect Jack Nicklaus in 1972. You can download the app by visiting www.deloitte.com/us/golf or just by aiming your smartphone at the AR image.

Let’s quote USGA’s chief commercial officer Navin Singh:

Deloitte and USGA Created Augmented Reality App for the US Open

“The U.S. Open AR app is the latest in a long line of initiatives designed to ensure that each year the U.S. Open provides the ultimate on-site and viewing experience to golf fans. Our relationship with Deloitte has enabled us to explore a variety of cutting-edge digital technologies and activations that allow golf fans to interact with the championship like never before.”

And here’s Deloitte Consulting LLP’s managing director Allan Cook:

We are excited to continue to work closely with the USGA to develop experiences that transform the way fans engage with the championship. We are bridging the gap between the human experience and the digital to heighten fan enjoyment, create conversations and community, and allow more people to connect to the game they love.”

The future is now.
