Tour Edge Launches Exotics EXS 220 fairway woods hybrids

It was to be expected that Tour Edge will launch fairway woods and hybrids alongside the EXS 220 driver presented previously, so yeah, it seems like 2020 is going to be a good year for the company’s fans, provided we will survive the pandemic. All jokes aside, it comes as no surprise that the new fairway woods and hybrids are built around the company’s Diamond Face technology, again, just like the EXS 220 driver.

Just to refresh your memory, the Diamond Face technology consists of forty-four distinct thick/thin diamond-like shapes located between the club's face, with the “end-game” being a larger than life sweet spot. The specially designed diamond shapes are supposed to act as a mini trampoline of sorts right behind the face, in a quest to deliver ludicrous ball speed and overall improved performance when it comes to off-center hits, with the additional benefit of reduced spin.

Here’s the big chief, i.e. Tour Edge President and Master Club Designer David Glod speaking on his company’s latest EXS 220 line:

“Our goal is to make anyone who hits these side by side to clubs that cost twice as much to question why they would ever think about spending the extra money. These clubs are that good. We will have a large amount of EXS 220 in play on the professional tours and we will penetrate bags of the better players across the globe due to the extreme performance benefits of these clubs. Truly, pound for pound, nothing comes close to the EXS 220 metalwoods.”

Let's start the show by giving you a few juicy details about the EXS 220 fairway woods: to begin with, these babies are crafted using cutting-edge materials, and we're talking about a new Hyper-Steel alloy, which is fourteen percent lighter compared to the previous generation. The choice of this particular material allowed Tour Edge’s engineers to reposition saved weight to the read of the clubhead as well as the center of the sole, in what can be described as dual concentric weighting which delivers a fantastic melange of low spin and ease of launch.

The Hyper Steel design combined with the Diamond Face technology, not to mention the dual-carbon sole and the back weight of the EXS 220 fairway metals works wonders in regard to boosting moment of inertia, thus making for improved distance gain, and incredible forgiveness. The center of gravity position was also improved, and if you add into the mix the jump in moment of inertia, you understand why Tour Edge chose a new and larger six-gram weight located in the rear of the clubhead, or dual carbon fiber in the heel/toe. The significant weight savings due to employing cutting edge materials and clever design allowed Tour Edge’s research and development team to create fairway woods like no other in terms of added forgiveness.

To help golfers dial in their favorite trajectory and swing weight, the new EXS 220 fairway metals feature three grams, nine grams, eleven grams, and fourteen grams weights, that on top of the six-gram back weight; add to that the Diamond Face technology that boosts the sweet spot and extends it higher on the center of the face, toe, and hill, plus the SlipStream Sole designed with wider speed-channels for promoting faster clubhead speed via smoother turf interaction and you end up with arguably some of the best fairway woods money can buy in this particular niche.

The Sound Diffusion bar is also here, as Tour Edge implemented this technology in all of their 2020 EXS 220 range, for delivering ideal acoustics, and that’s great news for golf purists. No less than three 3 woods are available in the company’s EXS 220 fairway metal offering as follows: 13.5, 15 and 16.5-degree versions, plus an 18-degree 5-Wood and a 21-degree 7-Wood available. The LH version 3-Wood is available as a 15-degree option. If you are wondering about the stock shaft options, the new EXS 220 fairway metals will match basically everyone’s swing speed: 85 MPH or Below Fujikura Air Speeder: Ladies (R3) | Senior (R2) | Regular ®, 85-95 MPH Fujikura Ventus 4T Core: 5-Regular | 6-Stiff and 95 MPH or Above Project X HZRDUS Smoke Yellow: 6.0 Stiff | 6.5 X-Stiff. Last but not least we have the 2020 Tour Edge EXS 220 Hybrid, which is a real treat for the “hybrid crowd”. This baby comes packed to the brim with the company’s latest and greatest technologies, including a 450-Hyper-Steel/360-degree Cup Face design, with the cherry on top being the Diamond Face technology, with the well-known diamond shapes located behind the face for more ball speed and a bigger sweet spot. The EXS 220 hybrid also boasts a deeper moment of inertia raising shape, which is deeper front-to-back and has an adjustable four-gram back-weight, which is aimed at delivering a more forgiving and stable design, plus extra weights in seven and ten grams to help fine-tune the desired trajectory and swing weight. The center of gravity in the EXS 220 hybrid was raised too by employing indents on the heel and toe on the sole of the clubhead, a very clever design that saves weight and relocates where it's needed most, in order to reduce spin. The SlipStream sole is also here, with its well-known wide channels, not to mention the Sound Diffusion bar that improves acoustics.

Tour Edge’s EXS 220 hybrid is available in a #2/17-degree, #3/19-degree, #4/22-degree, #5/25-degree and #6/28-degree models, with various stock shafts to match any golfer’s swing speed: 85 MPH or Below KBS TGI Tour Graphite: 50g Ladies | 60g A-Flex, 85-95 MPH KBS TGI Tour Graphite: 70g Regular | 80g Stiff and 95 MPH or Above Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black: 6.0 Stiff | 6.5 X-Stiff.
