Garmin Launches Approach S62 Golf Watch

Garmin is one of the most respected names in the wearables industry, and their latest Approach 62 makes for a premium golf GPS watch with a vivid full-color touchscreen, that comes loaded with over 41 thousand course-maps from all around the world. The Approach 62 was announced last month and features a sleek design, GPS connectivity and full color mapping directly on your wrist, boasting a 1.3 inches wide touchscreen display with excellent sunlight legibility.

The new display has 17% more screen real-estate compared to the previous generation; another improvement in the Approach 62 is the ceramic bezel, which is very light yet scratch resistant. The watch looks great and has an understated minimalist design, which means it can be worn both on and off the golf course. Since we’re talking Garmin tech here, the Approach S62 comes loaded with tons of golf-centric features, such as Hazard View, PlaysLike Distance and, most importantly, Virtual Caddie. The watch is capable of analyzing and providing comprehensive intel on various important factors that may affect one’s game, the likes of course layout, wind speed, temperature, elevation and so on and so forth, plus one’s past-swing history, i.e. it will help you select the ideal club for each shot based on your own game-experience. Here’s Garmin’s vice president Dan Bartel:

Garmin Launches Approach S62 Golf Watch

“The Approach S62 gives golfers access to essential golfing information like no other watch on the market with a style that goes beyond the clubhouse. Thanks to our new built-in Virtual Caddie and detailed course maps, the Approach S62 has the power to instantly transform into a caddie that knows you and 41,000 courses worldwide.”

The new Approach S62 is an excellent tool that will help you with fine-tuning your golf-game and also help strategize your moves. The Green View feature is very important in regard to improving yardage accuracy by allowing you to drang and drop the pin; moreover, there’s an round analyzer called Autoshot, which measures and records shot distances, i.e. this makes for a comprehensive game tracking feature and works great with club tracking sensors (the Approach CT 10 optional sensors respectively).

The watch works best when paired to the Garmin Golf app for iOS and Android, as stats are calculated directly from within the app and then transmitted to the watch, so you can view fairway/approach hits/miss percentages, handicap index and green regulations directly on your wrist. The Approach S62 also comes with a heart-rate monitoring sensor, which means it makes for a comprehensive fitness tracker, and, on top of that, when paired to your smartphone, can deliver notifications like texts, emails, alerts, calls et al directly on the display. This Garmin gizmo is great for tracking fitness activities like cycling, running or swimming (IP68 certified, i.e. dust and water proof), and, on top of that, can be used for contactless payments. The battery life is impressive: 20 hours in GPS mode and 14 days in smart watch mode, and, for fashion conscious golfers, the S62 is available in silicone, leather, titanium and nylon band-wrist options.
