Earlier in March, Ben Hogan debuted their new Equalizer Wedges, as the struggling company launched their first clubs in almost 2 years. The brand spanking new Ben Hogan Equalizer wedges are forged using 1025 carbon steel and boast CNC milled faces, with even numbered lofts ranging from 48 to 62 degrees. So, what's new about the Equalizers you asked? Well, these babies are engineered by the Texas based company to deliver a controlled ball flight and a soft feel for increased performance on delicate chips and approach shots, and also on greenside bunker shots and pitches. And that's exactly what old school golfers would expect from a company that bears the name of the iconic golf-pro (The Hawk), a 9 time major winner, who would've enjoyed the level of control the new Equalizer wedges offer. Each wedge in the Equalizer series is forged using 1025 carbon steel for delivering an amazingly soft feel, while the face is CNC milled to perfection, i.e. it's completely flat, before the grooves are put into place.

The CoG (center of gravity) in each Equalizer wedge depends on loft, i.e. it varies, but what's important to know is the philosophy behind their design, which makes for a unique location of the CoG. More precisely, the 48, 50 and 52 degrees wedges are aimed at helping golfers hit more piercing/flatter approach shots from the fairway, hence their center of gravity is located higher. The opposite is true for the higher-lofted sand wedges (54, 56, and 58 degrees) and lob wedges (60 and 62 degrees), which feature a lower center of gravity, a clever design trick that makes them easier to hit higher and softer landing pitch shots. The thing about a lower CoG in a wedge is that it promotes more spin and a higher launch. Similar to the new Ben Hogan Edge irons, the Equalizer wedges feature a V-shaped sole, which is engineered to help you work your way out through turf and sand alike. If you're a brand aficionado, you can get the new Ben Hogan Equalizer wedges at BenHoganGolf.com, as they're not available in regular stores; and if you're wondering about the price, well, it's $100 each in either steel or graphite. The good news is that you can buy Ben Hogan gear via no interest financing (short term, 6 to 12 months). Moreover, there's a Trade Up program in place, i.e. you can trade your old golf gear to offset the cost of your new purchase.
