    Kittansett Club Course Review

The Kittansett golf club was founded way back in 1922 (opened to public in 1923) and its one of the few seaside golf courses in New England, sitting on a beautiful piece of property in Marion, Massachusetts and being also one of the states most historic golf clubs. Keep in mind that what were dealing with here is a private resort, available for its members and their guests only. The Kittansett golf course was designed by architect Frederic Hood, and he consulted with the famous Donald Ross, with the end result being a golf course which looks and feels as natural as they come, but the truth is that it was thoroughly designed down to its last inch. Hood never built nor designed another golf course after his Kittansett job, but this baby was created by Hood himself from scratch basically, using some old drawings courtesy of William Flynn while the golf course was built using local crews of inexperienced workers.

However, the end result was exceptional, as the Kittansetts main attribute is to surprise its visitors, being a sea-side golf course with no dune in sight and judging from the local topography, youd expect a links like design. The reality is that the Kittansett golf course features tree lines on 2 thirds of its holes and the soil is not sandy at all, i.e. this golf course is pretty far from what youd expect, as it doesnt play fast and hard with a few exceptions. There are also lots of fairway impending obstacles scattered all around the golf course. Truth be told, people seldom realize how difficult this golf course really is until they play it for the first time. Not even its members, i.e. people who are familiarized with the speed of the game, the obstacles and the carries. Bottom line, if youre looking for a legendary layout which is often visited by golf pros, the Kittansett is the perfect place to play your favorite game.
