Mizuno RB566 and RB566V Golf Balls Review

Starting with March 20th, the new Mizuno RB566 and RB566V golf balls will become available to the general public in North America, along with the latest forged/precision milled M.Craft putters. The Japanese company announced earlier in January their brand new soft-compression golf balls, designed to offer improved ball flight and more distance than ever before due to their unique 556 dimple pattern and redesigned high-energy cores, which are beautifully complemented by the premium line of M.Craft putters. Speaking of high-end golf balls, Mizuno’s previous RB TOUR and RB TOUR X launched back in 2019 have received universal praise from both amateurs and Tour pros alike, and they even won the Gold Award in the 2019 Golf Digest HOT LIST, plus a well-deserved place in Golf Monthly’s Editor’s Choice for 2019. Just like the RB TOUR and RB TOUR X , the new RB566 and RB566V are premium golf balls, and they follow the success of their predecessors, marking the Japanese company’s increasing expansion into the golf ball market.

The RB566 and RB566V are basically the new generation of high performance/premium golf balls from Japan, and they’re built around a high energy core and with a unique dimple pattern. The redesigned cores are now larger than before and thus they work wonders in reducing spin and increasing launch, which further translates into a stable and more efficient flight. The RB566 is Mizuno’s softest compression ball to date; now, add into the mix the 566 micro-dimple design, which is aimed at helping to delay the ball’s rate of descent past the apex of the flight, and you’ll end up with a distance eater. The soft compression core in the RB566 is also larger than ever before, and this translates into a straighter and more stable ball flight. Moreover, the RB566 has a ionomer cover, that provides durability and excellent green-side feel, being aimed at golfers with slower/mid swing speeds, and it’s especially well-suited for warm conditions. If the weather is cold, or the ground soft, you can play the RB566 regardless of your swing speed.

The RB566V is a little bit different, as it’s designed for maximum launch and velocity (that’s what the V letter stands for by the way). Just like the regular, the RB566V comes with the unique 566 D-dimple pattern, that helps with the rate of descent, but due to its special 3 piece construction which also uses a ionomer cover, this time you’ll benefit from a slightly higher launch angle. The new/high-energy butadiene core in RB566V makes it incredibly fast and also enhances feel, and keeps the ball nimble around the greens.
