The Srixon Z-Star XV golf balls retails for $39.99 (MSRP) a dozen and they are available in two colors: pure white and tour yellow. Compared to the standard Z-Star, the XV version provides better feel and performance, making for a very interesting advancement from the company. The Z-Star XV comes with Srixon's patented Spin Skin dimple pattern and an improved core. These new features combined make for the Z-Star XV to perform like a firmer ball, while maintaining that softer feel we all love in our golf balls. The company says their new Spin Skin technology improves friction between the club surface and the golf ball by 20 percent, and that translates into improved greenside control and spin, but without compromising distance off the tee. In terms of feel, the Z-Star XV is superior to the standard version, making for the ideal blend between the firmness of a low spin ball and the soft compression in a spinner ball. The advantage of the XV over the “vanilla” version is also obvious in the long game, where the former is more accurate and delivers more distance. Keep in mind the Srixon Z-Star is a higher spinning ball than the XV, hence these differences. In the short game, the Z-Star XV really shines, being fairly easy to control, i.e. you'll have zero issues with regard to getting enough spin on the greens. Putting with the Z-Star XV is buttery smooth, as the ball rolls nicely and feels great off the face. Bottom line, the Z-Star XV is great for golfers with higher swing speeds and good control, and will not suffer from excessive spin.
