This golf course will impress you with its classic character and understated design, as it rests majestically amidst towering pines and oak trees, just North of Callawassie Island. The Chechessee CreekGolf Club was first opened for players back in 2000 and it became immediately a huge hit among connoisseurs, due to its imaginative putting surfaces and the raised green complexes, not to mention the very interesting jagged edged bunkering, all these making the Chechessee CreekGolf Club to stand out from the crowd. The green-sites are elevated 2ft higher for improved drainage and to promote fast and firm playing conditions. Apart from that, the most notable feature of this Coore and Crenshaw designed course is its bunkering job, despite the lack of a dramatic landscape to work with. The architects managed to mitigate the somewhat dull topography using their imagination, thus creating challenging and very interesting holes, which are also very playable regardless of your skill levels.

2. Cherry Hills Country Club Eighteen Hole Course Review

This golf course hosted numerous PGA championships, both for professionals and amateurs alike, including the 2005 Womens Open. The Cherry Hills Country Club offers its visitors an outstanding classic feel, being a very enjoyable place to take a good walk and play a great game of golf. The course offers a variety of holes dogleg and it really dances through the trees, having enough water to splash around but not too much to dominate the day. Also, the Cherry Hills Country Club is one of the toughest in golf, with the fairway slopes toward the lake, which is on the left side. I mean the course is really difficult and just watching it on TV doesnt do it justice at all. All you have to do is to stay out of thick, the rest is relatively straight forward.

3. Chicago Golf Club Course Review

The Chicago Golf Club was the first golf course to feature central irrigation, for watering its tees and greens, thus keeping them in tip-top shape. The holes are very good and some of them outstanding, but what puts the cherry on top is the 4 par 3s. Even if its old fashioned, the ChicagoGolf Club never looked better than today, representing the essence of golf, having those kinds of members who can talk the talk and walk the walk in the same time. And as per metrics, the ChicagoGolf Club has 6710 yards of golf from its longest tees for a 70 par and it was designed by architects Seth Raynor and the aforementioned C.B. Macdonald. Both motorized carts and caddies are available, together with on-site accommodations. If you want to taste a slice of USGA history and play an awesome round of golf in a place imbibed with tradition, theres no other place than the ChicagoGolf Club.

4. The Cliffs at Walnut Cove Course Review

The course layout is very tricky, but mostly due to the extreme undulation throughout. This modern Jack Nicklaus design will not let you down. Starting with the 450 yard par 4 monster to begin your round, you will l have little time to ease your way into the round. Luckily, the next few holes are quite simple, until you reach the par 5 8th which is another mammoth of a hole. Sitting at just under 600 yards, and tight as can be, you will need to drive it long and keep it straight or trouble awaits. You are greeted with back to back par 4s that are fairly simple, but another monster awaits on hole 12. Sitting at just under 500 yards, you will need another big drive and it must be straight or you will have trouble reaching the green in two. Ironically enough, I have only mentioned the monster holes, and the course sits at just over 6,600 yards. The distance all comes from the natural elevation throughout the mountainside, and it provides a truly unique layout. I do not recommend passing up on this Nicklaus masterpiece, if all else fails, you can at least stop by for the stunning views.

5. Colorado Golf Club Course Review

Testimony to that is the fact that the ColoradoGolf Club is a true Championship Course, featuring multiple lines of approach and play and it was opened for international acclaim way back in 2007. Since then, the ColoradoGolf Club hosted lots of PGA events, such as the Senior PGA Championship in 2009, the 2013 Solheim Cup and in 2019 it will be home for the US Mid-Amateur Championship. Also, the ColoradoGolf Club is ranked number five in Top One Hundred Residential Courses as per 2015 and number thirty three by Top One Hundred Modern Courses in 2015.

6. Columbia Country Club Course Review

The present-day golf course sits majestically on a beautiful piece of real estate and it was designed back in 1911 by Herbert Barker, a famous architect and a top notch golfer in his day. The Columbia Country Club suffered a number of extensive renovations in 1915 and 1925, including the addition of a club-house. More recent improvements include a better irrigation system added earlier in 2012 and new tee boxes. In the 60s, the Columbia Country Club received platform tennis courts and later on in 2009 an upgraded fitness center, an indoor swimming facility and a bowling alley. The Columbia Country Club golf course has a long and rich tradition of being home for some of the best amateur golf-players in Washington DC. Its also worth mentioning that this course was highly regarded by President Woodrow Wilson back in the day. About the golf course itself, theres a funny saying among caddies and members, that there are just 2 flat lies there at Colombia, on the tee and in your pocket.

7. Congressional Country Club -Gold Course Review

The Congressional Country Clubs original purpose was golf only, but meantime it evolved into something resembling more of a family club, boasting its top notch facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, bowling and dining. If Id have to describe the CongressionalCountry Club in a few words, Id say that it has a storied past and a bright future.

There are two golf courses available to choose from at the CongressionalCountry Club, the Blue Course, which features 7250 yards of golf from its longest tees for a 72 par, founded in 1922 and designed by architects Robert Trent Jones Sr, Devereux Emmet and Rees Jones, while the second is the Gold Course, established also in 1922, featuring a yardage of 6588 from its longest tees for a 70 par, designed and built by numerous architects (it suffered major renovations/re-design jobs during its long life). Both the Blue and the Gold golf courses are well known for their tree lined fairways, the rolling terrain and nothing short of challenging greens. There are also water hazards thrown into the mix here and there, but its worth mentioning the Blue Course hosted the most significant golf tournaments in the CongressionalCountry Clubs long and rich history. Also, the Blue is considered among the Top 100 best golf courses in the US. The Gold is shorter compared to the Blue and it has always been the little brother, being completely renovated in 2000 by Arthur Hills and just as challenging as the Blue.

8. Country Club Of Asheville, The Course Review

Designed by Donald Ross in 1928, this course provides a nice touch of modern day beauty with the classic Ross feel. With the typical Ross layout, distance is lacking, but the greens will defend the scoring. As the case with all Donald Ross courses, Asheville is no exception. You need to be strategic off of the tee, and miss below the hole. During your round, you wont find too much trouble, with the exception of a few holes. The par 4 eighth hole is quite a bit longer than the rest, and is tight as can be. You need to miss to the right side of the fairway, and be very precise with your approach shot to stay below the hole and find a birdie.

9. Country Club of Charleston Course Review

This golf course features 6587 yards of golf from its longest tees for a 71-par, with a slope rating of 127 and a course rating of 71.7. Metrics aside, the Country Club of Charleston is built on a magnificent piece of real estate which offers its visitors an absolutely terrific view together with a challenging play, regardless of their skill levels. Whether youre an amateur or a pro-golfer, youll have the time of your life on the greens and fairways of the Country Club of Charleston. This golf course was designed and built to be difficult but in a friendly manner, together with providing its members and guests a highly trained staff that is always ready to share tips and tricks for helping you play your best round.

10. Country Club of the Rockies Course Review

The Country Club of the Rockies is privately owned and available for its members and their guests only and the magnificent mountain vistas will make for an unforgettable golfing experience, especially if youre visiting for the first time. Another thing worth mentioning is the altitude, as the Country Club of the Rockies was built at an altitude of 7200ft above sea level and it features 7402 yards of golf from it longest tees, being located twelve miles west of Vail. Despite being a mountain-golf course by all metrics, the Country Club of the Rockies resort feels more like a regular inland links one. Thats mostly due to water, which comes into play on the majority of the holes, signature-holes included, especially the back 9 which plays along the majestic Eagle River. The scenery is breathtaking and the golf course is well known for its impeccable conditioning and especially the very fast greens. Bottom line, if youre seeking for the ultimate golfing experience in the Vail area, the Country Club of the Rockies is a must-try.
