As a teaching professional, I see all the time, golfers trying to improve their game and they’re always telling me how hard they’ve been working on their swing mechanics and how hard they’ve been working on a hitting their driver and then when we see them actually hit golf balls, and they’re pretty good, you know, they hit the ball nicely, down they’re off the T, they get their drive out there, they get their second shot within 100 yards of the green, and then they have no clue what to do from inside a 100 yards. They might understand how the techniques work, but they don’t understand which club to use and how far they hit their shots and here’s a real big missing part of a lot of people’s game.
Is that inside the 100 yards, they’re just not accurately, accurately hitting the right shots, at the right time, the correct distance and actually when we look at the pros and we appreciate how good they are at all aspects of the game, but really from a 100 Yards in it’s a class above for most club golfers and actually that part, that last a 100 yards and in the tall professional gives up his physical advantage and the club golfer is of a similar physical stature from a 100 yards in it.
I can't expect you guys to hit the golf ball as far as Rory Mcllroy does, because he’s a different type of athlete than most golfers, but actually inside of 100 yards, we could all be as good as Mcllroy because he doesn’t have that physical advantage anymore, so inside a 100 yards, we need to really pay attention to quite a few different attributes about our swing, our clubs, and our golf courses to make sure we can manufacture the best shot possible inside a 100 yards, so the first thing to consider is simply club selection. Making sure you’ve got enough clubs in your bag that can do this distance.
So, do we have lob wedge, sand wedge, gap wedge, pitch wedge, nine iron, they could all hit this 100 yard shot a lot of people just carry two wedges, pitching wedge and sand wedge. That’s all they’ve got now that’s limiting your choices. The other thing to understand here is how the golf course is actually going to lay out for us where the hazards are, where the good bits are, where the bad bits are, where you should be trying to land the ball, how the ball is going to react on the green.
You could also consider stroke mechanics, how should we stand to hit this pitch shot, how far should we swing the club, is it a full back swing, or is it a pitching back swing, or a chipping back swing. So, all these different considerations need to go into making of the shots inside a 100 yards to get maximum control of your distance. If you can control your distance, you’re generally a better play from inside a 100 yards alignment from this distance is not necessarily the key concern, but distance control. Watch the best players from inside 100 yards. Their distance control is normally superb, let's try to help you to get the same distance control from inside 100 yards.
