The Callaway XR 16 Fairway Wood retails for $229,99 (MSRP) and it can be described as being “bigger, better, faster, more”. I mean, it's hotter, bigger and more forgiving than the previous generation, especially due to its newly designed Hyper Speed Face Cup, which maximizes distance and speed. That's the Callaway XR 16 Fairway Wood in a nutshell.
Moving along with the story, the most striking thing about this fairway wood is its head shape, which is now significantly larger, and that translates into an easier to hit and more forgiving piece of golf gear. Callaway also threw into the mix an outstanding combo of a very high COR for a fairway wood, a high moment of inertia (MOI) together with a low center of gravity (COG).
In layman's terms, that translates into a very easy to hit fairway wood, with the lightest crown ever, highly versatile, longer and with more playability from all types of lies.
The R MOTO face ribs were re-designed, and now they're longer and extending back from the Hyper Speed Face Cup, providing increased amounts of strength and reducing weight, for improving launch conditions and adding to forgiveness levels. The Callaway XR 16 Fairway Wood has a lovely shape at address and a mid sized head, featuring a matte black crown for aiding with alignment and a Callaway chevron in relief, framing the ball nicely and boosting confidence levels.
The sound and feel upon ball impact are excellent, as expected from a Callaway fairway wood, and I must confess that this baby looks as awesome as it plays.
