So choosing the right golf ball and creating the right spin with that golf ball, is obviously going to be quite an important decision as a golfer, and I would encourage you to try and play with the same type of ball each time you go and play, changing from a hard ball to a soft ball and back again, the very next day can be quite off putting for your game. So to pick the right ball we’ve really got to look at three key shots and make sure we’ve got a ball that's appropriate for each one of those key shots.

So the first thing we’ve got is the driver, then we’ve got a wedge, and we’ve got a putter. Now the main aim with the driver what we would like to have is ultimate distance, just getting a golf ball that just goes for miles, and generally a golf ball that goes for miles would hopefully be a ball that doesn’t generate much spin. So it’s a low spinning ball, goes a long way, doesn’t deviate offline too much, that's what we would like with the driver. But then with the wedge what we want is the exact opposite, we want a ball that feels really soft and spins loads, a ball that lands on the green and checks up a little bit force and doesn’t land on the green and shoots over to the other side, then when we look at a putter we probably want a golf ball here that gives us a nice feel off the club face, a relatively soft ball one that rolls the right sort of distance on relatively fast greens and gives us a nice bit of feel. So what we’ve got there is maybe two or three different priorities, certainly the difference between the driver and the wedge is quite pronounced, the driver is all about distance, the wedge is all about feel. And it’s a golf ball manufactures quandary I guess to try and produce golf balls that produce not necessarily all of one, or all of the other, but a combination of both and certainly as better players we are looking for a golf ball that will give us the combination of length of the tee, but spin around the greens. And golfer are quite happy to pay, quite heavily for that privilege, now we are seeing sleaze of golf balls now retailing 10 or 12 pounds, so $15, $18, $20 I would guess for a really premium set of three golf balls, that spin and stop on the green, and go a long way off the tee. 2015-11-03
