Henke had a very successful college career while attending Florida State University. He was an All American for three consecutive years and won a total of seven tournaments during this time. He turned pro in 1988. He successfully came through Q School at the first time of asking to secure his first PGA Tour card for the 1989 season.

He played 26 times in his rookie year, making the cut on 13 occasions. He had a single top 10 finish which came at the B.C. Open where he was a tie for 6th place. He would have to return to Q School after finishing 159th on the money list. Henke captured his first Tour win in 1990 at the B.C. Open where he finished three strokes ahead of Mark Wiebe. This was one of five top 10 finishes for Henke and he would end the year 48th on the money list.

He won again the following year, this time by a single stroke at the Phoenix Open. He had a further five top 10s including a 7th place finish at the US Open. He ended the year 28th in the standings.  Henke’s third and final PGA Tour win would come in 1993 at the BellSouth Classic where he won by two shots. He also had two top 10s in Major Championships that season, finishing a tie for 7th at the US Open and a tie for 6th place at the PGA Championship. Henke came close to winning in 1995 but lost on the second play-off hole to Bob Tway at the MCI Classic. He lost his full card after the 2000 season and began to play on the Nationwide Tour for a few years.
