Warren had a good amateur career and was a member of the Great British and Irish team that won the 2001 Walker Cup. He turned pro in 2002 and plied his trade on the Challenge Tour (the second tier Tour in Europe). In 2005 he topped the money list and thereby won his first ever European Tour card. On his way to the first place finish, he won twice both after play-offs (the Ireland Ryder Cup Challenge and the Rolex Trophy).
Warren captured the EnterCard Scandinavian Masters during his rookie season on Tour. He defeated Robert Karlsson after a play-off. This was one of two top 10s on his way to ending his debut season 42nd on the money list. He would win again the following year, this time in his native Scotland, at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. He defeated Englishman Simon Wakefield after a play-off. He would once again finish the season 42nd on the money list. In 2007 he also was part of the Scottish partnership that captured the World Cup (Colin Montgomerie was his partner).
Warren struggled with his game for a few years and it would take seven years for him to capture his third and latest Tour win. He lost in a play-off to Matteo Manassero at the flagship BMW Championship in 2013. He got that elusive win in 2014 at the Made in Denmark tournament. He closed with a round of 68 to finish two strokes ahead of Bradley Dredge. Warren would end the year a career best 26th on the money list. Warren’s best finish in a Major Championship to date was a tie for 12th at the 2013 PGA Championship.
