Jeong moved to Australia with his family in 2066 and started a very successful amateur career. He was number one in the amateur World Rankings in 2010. He was the first ever Asian to win the British Amateur Championship. He also finished as low amateur at the British Open Championship that year after finishing in a tie for 14th. After playing in the 2011 US Masters, Jeong turned pro.
He attempted to qualify for a number of Tours in 2013 at the relevant Q Schools (failed to qualify for the Web.com Tour, successfully qualified for the European Tour). Jeong only had partial status for the 2013 season on the European Tour yet he managed to capture his first pro win in his fourth event of the season. It came after a play-off with Ross Fisher at the SPS Handa Perth International. This victory gave Jeong a two year exemption on the Tour.
Jeong only made five cuts in thirty events in the 2014 season. He finished the year 122nd on the money list and if it wasn’t for the two years exemption he had, Jeong would have lost his European Tour card (top 115th retain their card). Jeong has really struggled so far in the 2015 season. He has played seven events and has missed the cut in all seven. Out of fourteen rounds in 2015, Jeong only broke 80 three times.
