    Wagner had a successful college career at Virginia Tech. He was twice on the All Big East Conference team and also captured the individual Big East Individual Championship in 2002. Shortly after graduating, Wagner turned pro. He played on the Nationwide Tour for a number of years. His game improved each season; in 2003 he was 120th in the standings, 42nd in 2004, 36th in 2005 and finally 2nd in 2006. In his successful 2006 season on the Nationwide Tour, Wagner won his first pro event at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open and went on to win the Cox Classic. He won his first ever PGA Tour card as a result.

    He had two top 10 finishes in his rookie year with his best result coming at the Viking Classic. He finished in second place, a single shot behind winner Chad Campbell. Wagner would finish his rookie season 98th on the money list. His first PGA Tour win came the following season. He captured the Shell Houston Open by two strokes form Chad Campbell and Geoff Ogilvy. This win gave him an invite to his first ever Masters. This was his only top 10 that season but Wagner still ended up 73rd on the money list.

    Wagner’s second win came in 2011 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun. He defeated Spencer Levin at the first play-off hole to capture the title. His most recent Tour win came in 2012 at the Sony Open in Hawaii which was his first event of the season. He won by a comfortable two shots. The win brought him into the top 100 of the World Rankings for the first time in his career. He finished the year a career high 35th in the standings.

    Wagner played poorly over the next two years and lost his card after a poor 2014 season when he finished 158th in the standings. Having received a number of sponsor invites in the 2015 season, Wagner looks set to regain his full card mainly thanks to a play-off loss to J.B. Holmes at the Shell Houston Open.
