Iwata has lost two playoffs in his career. The first came in 2008 at the Fujisankei Classic where he lost out to Toyokazu Fujishima. Then in 2014, he lost to Hideki Matsuyama at the Dunlop Phoenix tournament. He has played in five PGA Tour events in his career. He managed to finish 3rd at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions which was played in Shanghai in 2014. If he made a birdie putt on the last hole, he would have been in a play-off with South African Tim Clark and American Bubba Watson. He has played in one Major Championship event, the 2014 British Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club where Iwata missed the cut.
