Shane Lowry is the son of a famous footballer (soccer) who attended college on an athletic scholarship. An accomplished amateur player, Lowry won the 2007 Irish Amateur Close Championship, a match play event. Two years later, while still an amateur, Lowry captured the Irish Open, a European Tour event. Lowry shot a 62 during the event and cracked into the Official World Golf Rankings. Lowry was the first Irishman since Padraig Harrington (2007) to win his country’s home championship.

Lowry turned professional after his win at the Irish Open. He failed to make the cut in his first three tries on the European Tour, finally cashing a small check in July 2009 for his 50th place performance at the Open de France. His best performance for the year was a 3rd place showing at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament and a 4th at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. Those performances allowed Lowry to break into the top 100 for the first time in the Official World Golf Rankings.

In 2010, during qualifying for the Open Championship, Lowry posted a score of 62 at Sunningdale, tying Nick Faldo’s course record. He would go on to qualify for the Open, his first Major championship, and make the cut finishing in a tie for 37th place.

In 2012, Lowry captured his first win as a professional on tour at the Portugal Masters.

Lowry’s best finish in a Major was a tie for 9th at the 2014 Open Championship. Lowry had an outstanding 2014 season, finishing second to Rory McIlroy at the BMW PGA Championship and 10th on the season ending money list.

Lowry played his first Masters Tournament in 2015 but failed to make the cut.
