Sainz was born in Chicago, Illinois and went to school at Larkin High School in the Chicago suburb of Elgin.

After turning professional as a golfer in 2010, Sainz began playing on the Canadian Tour where he went on to achieve his first win in 2013, and finished that year in 9th place on the money list. That same year Sainz began playing on the Web.com Tour where he is yet to achieve a win. He is also yet to achieve a win on the PGA Tour where he began playing in 2015.

Away from the course, Sainz keeps himself busy by partaking in other sports, such as fishing, soccer, tennis and table tennis. He is also a keen hunter.
