Like many of his contemporaries, European golfer Jonas Blixt chose to attend college and play golf in the United States upon his completion of high school. Blixt was a two-time All-American at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Turning pro after college, Blixt began playing on both the Nationwide Tour in the states and the Challenge Tour in Europe.
In 2011, Blixt finished 5th in the Nationwide standings and earned his PGA card for the 2012 season. Mid-year, he found himself tied for the lead on the 71st hole of the Byron Nelson Classic. Blixt failed to close that tournament out but finished in a tie for third place. A subsequent rib injury put him out of action for two months. Blixt bounced back to earn his first PGA title that fall at the Frys.com Open.
He earned his second PGA Tour victory in 2013 by winning at the Greenbriar. He capped off his year with his first top ten in a Major by placing 4th at the PGA Championship.
His good play qualified Blixt for his first trip to Augusta National and he exceeded everyone’s reasonable expectations. Blixt broke par all four days at Augusta and finished in a tie for second in his very first Masters. This performance elevated him to 33rd in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Blixt has struggled on the PGA in 2015. In 13 starts, his best finish is a tie for 25th place. Blixt will look to turn around his year this summer.
