Born in Santiago, Chile in 1985 Alvarado studied at Arizona State University where he achieved All-American honors in both 2006 and 2007.

Alvarado has had a varied career since he turned professional in 2007. He has played on the Challenge Tour, the Tour de las Américas, the Canadian Tour, PGA Tour Latinoamérica and the Web.com Tour. Alvarado’s level of success has been varied. He achieved wins on both the Tour de las Américas and the Web.com Tour. Having finished eleventh on the Web.com Tour money list for 2013, Alvarado earned his card for the 2014 PGA Tour; the first Chilean player to do this. He lost his card after finishing 240th on the FedEx Cup points list.
