You're Correct!
The Woosh drill is brilliant for increasing your club head speed and getting you to release your club at the perfect time to help improve your drives.
To try the Woosh drill you will have to turn your driver the wrong way round so you are holding the end of the shaft which is nearest to the head or by holding a practise cane at the end. You should then take full golf swings trying to get the club or cane to woosh. At this point, take note of where the woosh sound is coming if you can hear a woosh noise. Either before, during or after impact?
If you cannot hear a woosh noise at all, your swing speed is far too slow and therefore you will not be getting as much distance as you could. You need to try and swing the upside down club or cane a lot faster to get the woosh noise as loud as possible. Practising the woosh drill and getting the woosh noise will increase your club head speed which in turn will increase the distance you can potentially hit the ball with your driver.
On the other hand, if you can hear a woosh noise but it is coming before impact this practise drill will be good for you. If the woosh noise is before impact you are releasing the club far too early and all the energy you have created is being lost before you hit the ball. You will also be adding more loft on to the club which will make you hit the ball higher and shorter than desired. You are looking to hear the woosh noise just after impact and therefore all the energy is being release at the correct point which is at impact.
Practising this drill correctly will improve the timing of your release and increase your club head speed which will therefore increase distance and also improve the balls trajectory.
Sorry Try Again! - See Explanation Below
Good concentration is needed to hit good golf drives as you need to think about what your swing needs to do. This drill is not a drill that helps you to focus on concentration but one that increases your swing speed and improves the timing of your release.
Sorry Try Again! - See Explanation Below
The woosh drill does the complete opposite to slowing down your swing. The upside down club or cane is much lighter than a driver and you are therefore able to practise swinging a lot faster. Releasing the club at the correct point will also increase your club head speed. Both will contribute to getting greater distance.
Sorry Try Again! - See Explanation Below
The woosh drill gets you to release the ball just after impact. If you hear the woosh noise before impact, this means all the energy you have created is being lost before you hit the ball. You are also adding more loft to the club which will launch the ball higher. Losing club head speed and adding more loft on to the driver are both undesirable and will lose you a lot of distance.
