Why Correct Spine Angle Improves Your Swing Plane - Senior Golf Tip (Video) - by Dean Butler

Okay. We are going to talk about the correct swing plane here, the angle of your spine, which affects obviously the way that you actually swing on that plane. So first of all let’s set ourselves up in the correct position. If I set myself up, bending from the waist while my backbone is leaning forward and my knees slightly flexed and my weight is very much predominantly forward this would be classified as the right posture. And form the right posture this will enable me now to get them to this correct swing plane which would be in this place, so it’s a one plane swing as I go back. And you can notice that the angle of the body is still more or less where it was when I first started I have not lifted up or gone down. So a good set up, good posture will lead itself to a good swing plane.

Now if you can imagine, if you are very tall you stand too close to the actual ball, then the problem here, well that you tend to sway after swing plane, when you are from here, you tend to go and come right round because obviously if you are standing up to the ball from here you just, you could create some sort of space where you stand up from here and you can just imagine how the swing plane has now changed, it has gone from this to that, so it’s a two plane swing. And of course if you are crouching down over the golf ball too much down here, you body would be suffocating the swing to an extent that from here you would be going more up and down. So hopefully you can see how the posture, that three different postures can affect the swing plane dramatically. So let’s focus ideally try and set yourself up with a mirror or have somebody looking at you with a mobile phone or a video camera or reflection on the patio door.
