So now if we look a little bit more in depth at the golf or like Hunter Mahan and how he generates power through moving the engine, the hips and the core muscles within the golf swing. The first thing I’d like you to consider actually during the back swing that you make, I’d like you to feel quite quiet; quiet as in not much going on particularly in the lower half. So we take a nice set to the golf ball, and we make a nice big turn to the top of the backswing. But there’s not a great deal going on down here, it’s quite quiet; we’re not spinning the legs back or lifting the heel up in the air. Not too much going on with the knees, it’s quite a quiet backswing. Now it’s not to say the hips don’t do anything, they do, they turn to the right slightly maybe 20, 25 degrees of loading in the hips. But they don’t do it with a great deal of action; the legs don’t do too much.

But then the hips really jump into life in the transition. So as the club reaches the top of the backswing, the hips are going to start everything in the downswing. So the body weight is going to drive to the left, the hips are going to rotate, you’re also going to slide laterally, the left hip is going to get withdrawn, the right hip is going to come firing forwards. And then to the hip action that initiates all of these. So as the club winds up to the top, the hips are going to start the downswing by opening up back to the left. That will drag the club back down in front of you. And the third key element here is now don’t stop, don’t stop at impact and hit the ball and then finish with your hips here leaning back onto your right leg. But actually keep going all the way through to the big finish, the hips face the target, the right foot comes up and you feel like you’re fully committed to everything. So we’ve got quiet going back, the hips start the downswing, and the hips keep going free willing all the way round through a big finish, and hits the target. And if you can bring those three elements of hip rotation into your game, your swing will soon start to resemble the power and the grace of Hunter Mahan’s golf swing.
