So we’ve established now that we are really keen to make great ball striking a priority in our game, there’s three areas I would like you to look at when you are actually trying to strike the ball well. It’s going to be balance, a downward strike, and having confidence in your ability. Now the balance is important because throughout this golf swing I've got to try and maintain my balance to make sure I get back to a good impact position, and if I'm slightly off balance during my swing, there is a chance I'm going to hit toe hill top or bottom.

And often you'll see the golfer that you get through the ball and then you become a little bit off balance, there is a risk there that your off balance during the impact position as well, so lets make sure that we’ve got really good balance throughout the whole swing. The next point we want to look at is a downward strike, if a golf ball is sitting on the floor we cannot hit that golf ball with an upwards angle, as we come into the golf ball, that simply won’t work, we have to be hitting down into the golf ball, so the club is descending, hits the ball, then carries on into the turf. So a good iron strike should take some degree of turf or divot after the golf ball to prove that we are on a downward angle. And the last thing about this is really having great confidence in your ability, confidence that if you’ve got good balance, and if you’ve got a good downward strike you should hit that ball well even though you feel like you are going to hit that ground afterwards. I think a lot of golfers get to the top of their swing, lose confidence in what they are trying to do and actually trying to help the ball and scoop the ball up into the air, and that's really not something that’s going to be very productive to your golf. So if I can hit a shot now I'm going to try and show those three things. I'm going to show good balance during and after the shot, I'm going to show a downward strike which should take some turf and hopefully a bit of confidence in my own ability as well. So you can see there is a nice piece of divot after the golf ball, that shows that I was hitting down, I maintain my balance that I was able my hold my follow through until after the shot, you can also see that I do have confidence in my own ability, its something that I'm quite happy to do, and I've stood for quite a few hours hitting, hundreds of thousands of golf balls, with that downward strike. Try and bring a little bit of that balance downward striking confidence into your game, and improve your iron strikes.
