Royal New Kent Golf Club Course Review
The Royal New Kent Golf Club sits on a beautiful piece of real estate between Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia. The golf course was built upon the low and undulating hills between the Chickahominy River and Diascund Creek in 1997 and since its inception, it was very well received by the golfing community, being rewarded in the same year with the Best New Upscale Public Course in the Nation award by the prestigious publication GolfDigest and also ranked number 23 in Golf Magazines Top 100 golf courses in the United States. Just a few years later, the course at Royal New Kent Golf Club received the title of being one of Americas Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses by the same GolfDigest, whilst in 2001 it was ranked as one of the top 3 courses in the state. The Royal New Kent features 7372 yards of golf from its longest tees and its built on a rugged and windswept landscape, thus earning the reputation of being the truest representation of an Irish links design in the United States.
Thats because the terrain upon which the Royal New Kent Golf Club was built is reminiscent of the harsh Irish landscape, where you can still admire famous links-style golf courses, old school classics like the Ballybunion and the Royal County Down. The greens are well hidden behind grassy knolls, tall fescue grasses and hand-stacked rock walls. The large and beautifully contoured fairways sometimes require blind shots while the 72 par design of the Royal New Kent Golf Club features over one hundred and twenty bunkers, many of them lined with fescue grass and deep shadowed. The greens are huge and very fast and every hole offers multiple playing options.
